KV2 pays attention to the EX

KV2 pays attention to the EX

With the continuing promotion of KV2 Audio’s critically acclaimed VHD 5.0 speaker system, the Czech manufacturer has not neglected the development of its other loudspeaker series. Integrating nitride titanium compression drivers, for example, the EX series was recently expanded with three new additions. The compression drivers are treated with nitrogen diffused into the surface of the diaphragm, creating a nitride titanium structure. By reportedly removing resonances in the operating frequency range, KV2 claims that these HF drivers provide the lowest distortion in their class, whilst delivering smooth extended high frequency. With low distortion in the driver, the manufacturer states that the quality of the electronics driving the speaker becomes more audible.

Capable of producing a maximum SPL of 132dB, the EX15 incorporates a coaxial 15-inch transducer with a 1.75-inch nitride titanium compression driver on a wide dispersion horn. Unusually, the EX15’s coaxial driver only covers the low and high frequencies, leaving the mid-range 500Hz to 2.7kHz section to a 6-inch neodymium speaker mounted on a 80-degrees x 60-degrees horn. This allows the 15-inch driver to deliver the lower frequencies between 44Hz and 500Hz (-3dB response), rather than trying to reproduce the mid-range.

Powered by an 850W continuous current-enhancing switch mode amplifier, the EX15 is equipped with three handles and an M35 top hat for pole mounting. The 29kg Baltic birch enclosure measures 700mm-high x 450mm-wide x 450mm-deep and is finished in standard orange peeled matt black but can be customised to any RAL colour.

The EX1.2MkII is a single 12-inch active subwoofer system. Employing passive cooling, the enclosure’s 370mm-high x 800mm-wide x 400mm-deep dimensions make it suitable for discreet installations, where it can be installed either horizontally or vertically under seating or in furniture surrounds. Comprising a built-in 500W LF switching power amplifier, the EX1.2MkII delivers a maximum SPL of 124dB down to 38Hz (-3dB response) with a crossover point set at 125Hz.

Finished with a resistant polymer coating, the 32kg Baltic birch enclosure is equipped with two recessed handles, an M20 top hat for pole mounting together with LED indicators for signal, limiter, thermal and power on status.

Measuring 510mm-high x 550mm-wide x 570mm-deep and combining similar features, the EX1.5 is a 43kg active subwoofer incorporating a single 15-inch ferrite woofer and a 500W high efficiency power amplifier.
