Mahajak keeps audio on-track at 66 Station
THAILAND: A brand-new bar and restaurant situated opposite the Crystal Design Center in Ladprao, Thailand, has recently received a complete interior and exterior audio installation from Thai integrator Mahajak Development Co Ltd. Drawing on equipment from Harman brands JBL, Soundcraft, BSS, dbx and Crown, the install at 66 Station provides the management with a wirelessly-controlled system capable of covering the two zones independently. ‘Formerly, 66 Station’s property was a Ruen Pun Ya Resort Restaurant with live music,’ said 66 Station owner, Sompong Pisarnkijwanich. ‘My partners and I wanted to improve the restaurant to be more entertaining, thus we changed the concept from a general restaurant to a loft-style pub and restaurant in order to distinguish it from the other pubs and restaurants nearby.’
Described as a half-pub, half-restaurant, the venue is divided into two zones and also accommodates four karaoke rooms. The indoor zone is decorated by containers, with table legs made of oak barrels and circular glass sheet tops. The outdoor zone is an open-air space comprising a variety of seating options – from sofas to bar stools and high tables with benches surrounding a blue pool theme, a prominent feature that sets the restaurant apart from others.
‘They wanted a professional and high-powered audio system with clear sound,’ recalled Mahajak Development’s project engineer, Roengrith Jantarima, of the client’s requirements. ‘The owner separated the venue into two parts; a disc jockey serves electronic music in the indoor area while live performances and easy listening music are provided for the outdoor area. In addition, the management wanted a flexible audio system which allows wireless control from anywhere in the workplace.’
Inside the venue, JBL AM6215 cabinets and JBL AM7128 subwoofers were used as the main loudspeaker system for the DJ zone, powered by Crown Audio MA9000i and MA12000i amplifiers. Digital signal processing is from a BSS Blu-100, together with a Blu-Bob break out box to expand the number of available outputs.
For the outdoor installation, sources enter the system from a variety of microphones and musical instruments connected to a Soundcraft Si Expression digital mixer, with delay alignment and loudspeaker management from a dbx DriveRack260. Powered by Crown XTi6002 amps, JBL’s STX815M and STX818S speakers provide reinforcement outside. Additionally, a number of JBL Control29AV enclosures were deployed around the large outdoor zone to provide ‘clear sound quality’ when supporting the venue’s live music performances. The Control29AV enclosures were selected for the outdoor zone thanks for their IP-x4 splash-proof protection rating. The delay speakers for the outdoor zone are managed by a BSS Blu-50 and Blu-Bob.
‘The customer was very satisfied with the design, product selection and installation,’ enthused project manager and sound system designer, Sakon Chaloesong. ‘Harman products can provide all of the necessary requirements for the audio system whether it be high fidelity loudspeakers, durable and high power amplifiers, or multi-functional mixers, that is the reason why we select Harman products.’
