Metro TV invests in its future with Sony
INDONESIA: Metro TV broadcasts news coverage from around Indonesia in standard definition, as well as in HD via its online channel. As it continues to migrate towards high definition, the Surya Paloh-owned broadcaster has been actively investing in new equipment and providing its staff with training in the latest technologies. This led to the purchase of 19 Sony MCS-8M Switchers that are housed in Metro TV’s expanding fleet of OB vans, SNG vehicles and Flyaways. Indonesian Sony dealer Galva facilitated the sale.
The purchase follows the acquisition of several Sony devices between 2012 and 2015. This included the addition of Sony camcorders, such as PMW-EX3, PMW-300K1, NX70P and NX30P camcorders, PVM-1741 and PVM-A170 OLED monitors, and the XDS- 1000 Professional Media Station.
‘The MCS-8M switcher is affordable, versatile and fast enough to deploy anytime, anywhere,’ explained Metro TV technical operation manager, Trisilo Nugroho. ‘It also scored highly in many aspects especially the built-in PiP feature (Picture-in-Picture) and its durability. Even with Indonesia’s high temperature environment, the MCS-8M never gave us any technical problems.’
Also taken into account by the broadcaster when deciding to invest in the switchers was that it was reportedly easy to integrate with the existing infrastructure. This aided in simplifying the crew’s training on the new equipment.
‘We turned to Sony not just for its quality products but its proven expertise in equipping a future-proof TV station,’ said Mr Nugroho. ‘Investing in the future is a big step. Sony and its dealer, Galva, provided crucial product insight and consultancy to make our decision for investing in the future a straightforward exercise.’
