Nexo and Yamaha’s joint production at Westa Kawagoe
JAPAN: The main hall of the newly built Westa Kawagoe arts centre has been fitted with a fully integrated and networked sound solution comprising Nexo and Yamaha systems. Hosting events ranging from concerts to theatre, as well as lifelong learning and other similar activities, the multipurpose hall’s sound system is designed with side and proscenium speaker systems that work independently to cover the entire venue.
With the hall accommodating audiences of 1,700, the versatile system is digitally controlled and includes both fixed and portable elements. Nexo’s Geo S12 line arrays have been flown as the main speaker system, either side of the proscenium speakers for which Hi-Q point source speakers from Nexo’s Alpha series have been employed. The side speakers can be housed in the proscenium arch and are primarily used for applications such as musical reproduction.
The Westa Kawagoe is reportedly equipped with mechanisms that allow the arrays to be easily raised and lowered, providing an optimal acoustic environment to be achieved at each event and a simplified the installation process. Nexo’s STM series was also deployed as movable stage speakers, with the STM-M28 two-way full-range omni-module speakers serving alongside an STM-S118 sub module for the sub-bass and an STM-B112 bass module.
All equipment is connected to the Dante audio network that has been adopted for the control room and amplifier rooms, as well as for sound transfer to and from the stage, enabling the monitoring and control to be managed centrally. A Yamama CL5 was installed as the main mixing console, while the stage wings were equipped with QL1 consoles.
Also installed at the arts and culture centre, based in Kawagoe City, were Nexo PS15-R2 speakers to cover the ground floor seating, with additional PS15-R2s mounted above the stage for the audience on the third floor. Yamaha VXS5 speakers were deployed at stage front, while MSP7 Studio speakers act as monitors in the audio control room. The processors used for speaker modulation and matrix mixers came in the form of Yamaha’s DME64N and the system is powered by Nexo’s NXAMP4x4 amplifiers with built-in DSP.
