Pong’s Engineering carries Jinjuu late into the night

HONG KONG: Translated to ‘Pearl’, Jinjuu is the latest restaurant and bar to open in Hong Kong’s lively Lan Kwai Fong (LKF) district on D’Aguilar Street. Serving a sophisticated interpretation of modern Korean cuisine, it also serves a varied assortment of music to its patrons, depending on the time of day. The lengthy opening hours of these establishments, from breakfast to the early hours, reflects the sky-high rents. As such, the audio systems need to appeal to the diners and patrons throughout the day, rising from gentle BGM to reinforced dance music.

For the past 15 years, Hong Kong-based systems integrator Pong’s Engineering has been installing A/V systems into many of LKF’s establishments. Acting on the wishes of its client, Pong’s Engineering outfitted a Martin Audio sound system in the establishment, largely consisting of 10 upper-wall mounted CDD15 15-inch coaxial speakers augmented by six CSX112 subwoofers. The new 400W Coaxial Differential Dispersion speaker design operates within a range of 55Hz-20kHz with a rotatable drive unit that provides 60- to 100-degrees horizontal and 60-degrees vertical dispersion characteristics.

Powered by five MA5.2k amplifiers and processed with the aid of a Martin Audio DX0.5 controller, the system’s favoured music source during the daytime hours is an iPod, although a DJ booth hosting Pioneer players and mixers comes into play in the evening hours. Five distinct zones can receive varying audio levels and sources to reflect the individual ambience in each, simply controlled from a wall-mounted switch in the DJ area.

Commonly known as AJJ, Alan James Jewell has spent three decades in Hong Kong for which he has spent much of that time working in the capacity of executive director for the Lan Kwai Fong Group. During that time span he has observed the changing fashion trends of the bars and restaurants in LKF and beyond. ‘I used to be a DJ and appreciate good audio, but I also understand that reliability is of paramount importance when specifying a sound system,’ he stated. ‘You want the products to last for years without any problems. Martin Audio has become a proven brand for this, in addition to being renowned as a consistent return on investment. The coverage is superb and there is ample coverage when pushing the system at weekends and late into the evening. We specified another venue with Martin Audio products 12 years ago and it still works perfectly and has more than paid for itself.’
