Showtech welcomes back Solar Impulse 2

Published: MEA

UAE: Dubai-based rental company, Showtech, was responsible for the audio, video, lighting and staging equipment for the welcome reception and press conference as Solar Impulse 2 completed its round the world flight. The plane made history by circumnavigating the globe using only energy from the sun.

The journey started in March 2015 from Abu Dhabi and has seen the plane cross the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Upon completing the 17th and final flight, pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg landed back in Abu Dhabi at Al Bateen Executive Airport on July 26th 2016 after covering more than 40,000km without using a single drop of fuel.

A crowd of 300 people attended the event, which included the landing of the flight, a press conference for local and international media and an evening dinner at Emirates Palace. On the audio side, Showtech supplied four JBL VRX 932 LAs and a pair of JBL SRX 718 as the main PA while JBL Eons were used as the delay PA. The whole system was powered by Crown HD12000 amplifiers. In addition, a Pioneer DJ setup and Soundcraft 16 channel mixer for FOH were also integrated.

The lighting side saw the rental company supply 64 LED par cans, eight ETC Profiles and 12 Fresnel 1K all controlled by an Avolites Tiger Touch console. An LED screen spanning 10 sq-m, two video processors, a pair of DVI splitters, two Analog Way Pulse 2 switchers and a cue clicker formed the visual signal chain. The staging and backdrop saw Showtech incorporate a Prolyte stage design for supporting the LED and the media risers in addition to a 12m x 3m wooden backdrop.
