ACE installs largest live TV theatre in Asia

CHINA: Broadcasting in Mandarin and serving the Hefei and Anhui provinces, Anhui Television (AHTV) recently unveiled its new TV centre, including the largest live TV theatre in Asia with 3,200 seats and a sound reinforcement system from JBL.
In addition to popular Chinese TV shows, the system design also supports dramatic, concert, operatic, orchestral and fashion show performances. The first performance to a packed audience took place on January 16th, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Anhui TV and the Spring Festival Gala.
The tender to install the A/V equipment into the new theatre was awarded to Shanghai Yong Jia Lighting & Sound Engineering Co Ltd, who in turn turned to Advanced Communications Equipment (ACE) to supply the multi-purpose PA system following an open tender process. The same team had worked together successfully during the installation of Jiang Su TV theatre several years prior.
Although Shanghai Yong Jia Lighting & Sound Engineering Co Ltd went on-site in July 2010, the installation of the audio equipment didn’t commence until December. With the opening performance only several weeks away at the time, the schedule to complete was very tight as construction had not been completed. Therefore, system tuning had to be conducted at night when the venue was free of mechanical noise.
Measuring 36m in width to a depth of 60m, the stage area covers a staggering 4,300 sq-m making the task to balance the main PA, side-fills and front-fills extremely difficult. JBL AM5212 speakers were employed as front fills owing to the expansive distance between the stage and the front rows of the audience. A JBL VerTec line array system comprising VT4888DP-CN and VT4882DP-CN cabinets provides the broadcaster with a great deal of flexibility, scalability and portability. However, JBL AM6200 and 5215 speakers have been combined with JBL AL6115, ASB6125 ABS6128 cabinets as a fixed installed L/C/R house system.
In addition, JBL AM5212, SRX712M and PRX512M speakers are used in a portable fashion on the open stage apron, whilst JBL AM5212 stage monitor speakers have been installed into fixed positions. A further 64 JBL AC18 have been installed as surround sound speakers throughout the venue. A total of 42 Crown IT-5000HD and 4 IT-9000HD amplifiers have been installed to power the system, which can be controlled digitally on a PC via the London BLU processing Soundweb software.
