Allen & Heath celebrates Chinese Rock

CHINA: The Music Power Rock China 30 tour recently began at the Beijing Worker’s Gymnasium, 30 years to the day since ‘the father of Chinese rock’ Cui Jian performed Nothing To My Name in the arena – the moment often heralded as marking the birth of Chinese rock music. An Allen & Heath dLive digital mixing system was installed at FOH while engineer Jim Ebdon was flown in for the event, bringing a wealth of experience working with world-renowned acts including Maroon 5, Aerosmith and Sting.
An S7000 control surface and DM64 MixRack formed the dLive system that Mr Ebdon used at FOH, while the same setup was also employed for monitors. Additionally, six ME-1 personal mixers were deployed to enable members of the 11 bands that performed to control their own mix onstage.
‘This console is great! It sounds great, I love the effects in here, I love the dynamics, and the compressors sounds fantastic,' enthused Mr Ebdon. ‘For a show like this, there is no need for external effects or compressors. I tend to do some parallel compressions of the drums, so I have to set up with the 16VU compressor on a separate drum bus and I can fade that in to get some more weight and punch to the drums as and when it is necessary.’
