Allen & Heath serves as Super Girl’s sidekick

CHINA: China's second largest broadcaster Hunan Broadcasting System (HBS) has purchased an Allen & Heath GLD-112 digital mixer to manage live production of its shows, along with AR2412 and AB168 I/O racks. The production company’s first use of its new digital mixer was on its hit show, Super Girl – a female singing contest unofficially described as the mainland Chinese version of the television franchise, Pop Idol.

Broadcast live on Hunan’s internet platform, imgo.TV, which reportedly attracts over 35 million viewers each day, the final six episodes of the most recent Super Girl series included live performances by the contestants and guest stars, as well as commentary from five judges. With a total of 44 microphone sources utilised throughout the production, comprising handheld and headset mics, the GLD-112 AMM (Automatic Mic Mixing) functionality was put to use. This allows the user to select the inputs to be automatically mixed without the restrictions imposed by a 16-channel insert based system.

Following the successful production of Super Girl using the Allen & Heath system, Hunan Broadcasting System is planning to use it for its other shows, such as Mars Intelligence Agency and Crime Scene.
