Audiocenter performs, come rain or shine

THAILAND: Taking place on Nadan beach, Khanom Festival is exposed to the elements. The 10,000 music fans that attend the annual festival can expect all manner of weather conditions, from scorching sunshine to tropical rainstorms. As well as the bands and the attendees, the audio equipment used must also endure the conditions and at the most recent edition of the event, Bangkok-based Professional Light and Sound (PLS) was called upon, opting for an Audiocenter PA system.
A total of 10 local bands and artists performed onstage at this year’s Khanom Festival, which ran for nine hours from 5.30pm through till 2.30am. The stage was 18m-wide x 13m-deep and raised 2m from the ground. The audience area meanwhile was 70m-long x 50m-wide and PLS deployed 16 V-HLA12+ MKII cabinets per side in an L/R configuration to provide coverage throughout the audience area. The left and right clusters were installed 20m apart and flown 10m above the ground.
In front of the stage, 20 SW218 dual 18-inch subwoofers were placed in an end fire configuration to minimise low-frequency spill on the stage, and were separated into five arrays. For front-fills, four TS12 DSP-controlled self-powered loudspeakers were employed. Side-fills were courtesy of two clusters, each containing three K-LA28-DSP line arrays and an SW218 subwoofer and monitoring combined the 12-inch and 15-inch versions of Audiocenter’s PF+ series. DA Series amplifiers powered the system.
Audiocenter provided technical support onsite at the festival in the form of technical director, Mr Pei, and product manager, Mr Weng. The speakers were said to perform well with good sound quality while surviving the climate and the event’s FOH engineer commended the setup.
