Audiocenter solution installed at KUIS

MALAYSIA: The International Islamic University College, Selangor (KUIS) required a new sound system for its Convocation Hall, the old one having deteriorated after many years of use. Local distributor and supplier, AV Electronics Marketing Sdn Bhd (AVEM) recommended a full Audiocenter solution, referring to projects completed in halls of a similar scale.

The main challenge faced by AVEM was ensuring even SPL throughout the hall, which has with a length of 50m, a width of 30m and a height of 15m along with a highly reverberant wall and floor. To combat this, four K-LA28 line array speakers and a K-LA815B bass speaker were flown per side. With a vertical dispersion of 20-degrees, the K-LA28s have been aimed at the audience, reducing the reverberation from the venue, while the 100-degrees horizontal dispersion reportedly ensures SPL evenness all over. The K-LA815Bs complement the K-LA28 line arrays by extending the system’s lowest frequency capability from 60Hz to 48Hz.

The setup is powered by three Pro 9.0 2-channel amplifiers and is managed by a Proel PC260 digital loudspeaker controller. AVEM also made use of Rational Acoustics SMAART 8 measurement software to tune each line array, further reducing reverberation.

A couple of PF12+ loudspeakers have been deployed onstage as monitors, whilst six PF6+ units have been installed in the corridors adjacent to the hall, powered by a VA401 amp. The system was tested by Malaysian chart-toppers, Projector Band, whose members are former KUIS students and were said to be impressed with the system’s clarity.

‘I am impressed with the Audiocenter system’s performance,’ said KUIS sound engineer, Mr Yazid. ‘Before agreeing I checked with two other venues that own Audiocenter systems which filled me with the confidence to give AVEM the thumbs up.’
