Barco provides immersive audio at the mall

CHINA: The recently opened Shanghai 189 Lane shopping mall is installed with a Barco Iosono immersive sound system, which was installed by the manufacturer’s Chinese 3D sound distributor, Full Dimension. The mall’s operator, Citic Capital, opted for the solution having decided that the shopping venue would benefit from sound applications other than BGM.
Installed over the five floors of the mall are more then 100 sE speakers. These are driven by an Iosono Core processor, which allows for the same audio feed to be reproduced on all floors, or for individual mixes to be played simultaneously.
The solution is used to playback the ‘soundtrack of Shanghai’, delivering sounds ranging from the sounds of nature to recordings from the city’s past. Classical or electronic music is also played at times and the system can facilitate reinforcement of the concerts, multimedia performances and other cultural activities that take place at 189 Lane.
‘We are probably the first in China to introduce a hologram or 3D sound system into a retail real estate project,’ said Lu Feng, managing director real estate at Citic Capital. ‘It is designed to bring vivid or touchable listening experience to visitors.’
