KOREA: Megabox, the first cinema chain in Korea to roll out 4K, has invested in Barco’s DP4K-60L flagship laser projector for its first premium auditorium. The cinema chain’s inaugural premium auditorium is located at the Starfield Hanam hopping mall branch and with the new DP4K-60L projector, is reportedly capable of supplying audiences with ‘superior image quality and the brightest 3D’.
The auditorium has been equipped with a 22m wide Harkness Clarus silver screen in addition to the Barco laser projector. Megabox’ decision follows two years of research into laser technology.
‘We are dedicated to offering the audience the very best,’ explained Youlgu Lee, strategic operations senior manager at Megabox. ‘This is why we decided on Barco’s flagship laser projector and the Harkness Clarus screen with Horizon 3D Plus from Masterimage.’
‘The space and the technical backbone of the auditorium keep changing,’ added Hongsik Jung, the cinema chain’s technical engineering senior manager. ‘Easier and flexible installation combined with easy systems integration are therefore key. Barco definitely meets our needs in every area.’
