Beijing’s Babyface takes first APG Uniline in China

CHINA: The first APG Uniline system in China has been installed into the main room of Beijing’s famous Babyface bar as part of a complete refit – the venue’s second in as many years. The Uniline-D was supplied alongside a wealth of APG loudspeakers by the French manufacturer’s distributor BVCam.
Known throughout Beijing as a beacon to the city’s young and wealthy, Babyface originally opened in 2004 and continues to thrive despite stiffening competition. This latest redesign follows an earlier refurbishment in 2011, also based on APG, which saw the installation of a distributed SMX15-based system. In contrast, the 2013 version of Babyface is served by a full L-R system for the main room that has been redesigned to incorporate a moving stage.
BVCam’s Beijing-based installation specialist, John Who, with the support of APG’s Mathieu Delquignes, supplied and installed two clusters of Uniline-D comprising two UL115 and three UL210D cabinets per-side. The original SMX15s are now being used for DJ monitoring and side-fill, while low frequency support is delivered by four TB218S subs located beneath the DJ booth. Further APG speakers are located in the venue’s karaoke rooms, making up the total number of speakers to more than 30.
‘The client specifically requested a system that would not only deliver high SPLs with lots of deep and powerful infra-bass, but the sound needed to be clean and distortion-free throughout the frequency range,’ explained Mr Who. ‘The owner, Mr Wong, wanted a system that would place him in a league above what the other clubs in the region could offer, and that is exactly what he’s got. It’s unbelievably loud throughout the entire club thanks to all of the delays we installed, but it sounds great throughout.’
‘I’m particularly proud of this installation,’ added Mr Delquignies, who assisted with final tuning and commissioning. ‘It’s not a typical application for Uniline, but it does a fantastic job.’
