Calrec and TVNZ: 20 years and going strong

NEW ZEALAND: Television New Zealand (TVNZ) has built upon its existing relationship with Calrec by investing in an Artemis Light audio console while also upgrading its Artemis Beam desk with a Concord processor. The sale was facilitated through Australian distributor, Synchrotech.
‘We've enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Calrec, going back to 1996 when we brought in two analogue Calrec C2 consoles for our live television production studios,’ explained TVNZ general manager, production services and facilities, Paul Hedges. ‘When it came time to upgrade, we had no doubt the Artemis consoles would meet our needs. Plus, we really value the personal relationships we have established over the years with the sales, marketing and support at Calrec distributor, Synchrotech.’
Broadcasting across New Zealand and other Pacific regions, TVNZ is government-owned and purchased its Artemis Beam back in 2014 to replace the original Calrec analogue consoles bought in 1996. The Artemis Beam was selected as part of a wider strategy to eventually add the Artemis Light to the setup for a second studio, expanding production capabilities.
‘The Artemis Light is a perfect complement to our existing Artemis Beam console, bringing flexibility and agility to our operation,’ said Mr Hedges. ‘We can change quickly and easily from one production to another with zero downtime and zero patching errors, and the ability to share resources between the studios and save output configurations is invaluable.’
With the upgrades carried out, it has been stated that the Calrec consoles have doubled the available resources at the TVNZ studios, saving additional costs. The Concord processor upgrade, meanwhile, has reportedly provided extra flexibility and power to the setup, allowing complex programmes to be handled with ease. ‘From our many years of experience with Calrec, we know we can count on absolute reliability for critical programming,’ added Mr Hedges.
‘We can't wait to see what the next 20 years holds for our partnership with TVNZ,’ enthused international sales manager at Calrec, Anthony Harrison. ‘We have worked hard for many years to earn TVNZ's trust, and the new Artemis deployments there are just the latest examples of how our technology can evolve to serve a customer's ever-changing needs.’
