Calrec renames Callisto to Summa

WORLD: Calrec Audio’s latest broadcast console, Callisto, has undergone a name change as a result of potential trademark issues. The console, a slightly scaled back version of the manufacturer’s Apollo and Artemis consoles, will now be known as Summa in reflection of its overall function.
‘The term Summa is mainly used for texts that 'sum up' knowledge in a field, and the name also reflects the fact that a mixing console is essentially a summing engine,’ said Henry Goodman, Calrec's head of sales and marketing. ‘More fundamentally, we took the decision to change the name because Callisto was recently registered by another pro audio company. We missed the registration, and we have consequently been asked to change it, which of course we have agreed to do.’
Despite the new name, the product behind it remains unchanged. Available in fixed 20-, 32-, and 44-fader configurations, the console features eight groups, 16 auxes, 32 tracks, and makes use of the manufacturer’s Bluefin2 and Hydra2 technology to provide 180 channel processing paths.
