Cathay Cineplex debuts its first ever Dolby Atmos cinema

SINGAPORE: Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd (E&E) recently installed an EAW sound reinforcement system into Singapore’s 10-screen multiplex, Cathay Cineplex Jem, for its brand new Digital Xtreme hall – which features the cinema chain’s first-ever incorporation of Dolby Atmos technology.
Reported to be ‘the largest movie screen in the west,’ the Digital Xtreme hall boasts 278 seats and 46 Dolby Atmos channels, in addition to a 13.6m by 7.2m extra large cinema screen.
E&E was appointed to perform the integration of Dolby Atmos at Cathay Cineplex Jem; the main challenge being to design the directional configuration of the EAW speakers to meet Dolby’s requirements to optimise 46 channels of playback in the hall.
