Christie impresses audiences at Oscar CityOn International Cinema

CHINA: Oscar CityOn International Cinema has become the first cinema in Central China to be installed with a Christie CP42LH 3DLP 4K system. This follows a number of cinema chains adopting the Christie RGB laser projection solution across Asia, including the Tongzhou Wanda Cinema in Beijing, the Shanghai Film Art Center and SM Seaside City in Cebu, in a bid to provide the best possible 3D cinema experience.
The CP42LH is a 6P laser projection system reportedly capable of producing a colour gamut in excess of DCI P3 colour space, replicating the Rec. 2020 colour space and is anchored by the manufacturer’s Freedom laser illumination system. Situated in the central business district of Xi’an and comprising nine auditoriums, the Oscar International Cinema’s premium large screen hall has been fitted with a 25m-wide 1.8-gain screen. Its 6P system is made up of a couple of Christie 4K laser projection heads and a 6P modular laser light farm.
‘The level of 3D brightness, reinforced colour spectrum and an extraordinary contrast ratio offered by Christie’s 6P laser has been highly impressive,’ stated Oscar CityOn International Cinema’s technical director, Yinan Zhao. ‘Moviegoers who have attended screenings in our large screen auditorium have told us that this is the best movie projection that they have ever seen; the amount of detail that’s visible in the picture is simply astounding.’
‘We’re very pleased that Xi’an Oscar CityOn International Cinema has chosen our 6P laser projection system as its next-generation digital projection technology,’ enthused Christie China deputy general manager, Jason Pei. ‘It has been proven time and again as the perfect option for premium large format theatres, providing confidence to cinema exhibitors in terms of performance and reliability.’
