Connessioni takes AudioForum to ISE 2015

WORLD: Connessioni hosted its AudioForum educational platform at the recent ISE 2015 show in Amsterdam. Now in its fifth outing, the event consisted of a full-day programme combining seminars from qualified professionals with networking and the exchange of ideas, views and business opportunities. It was based around the central topic of ‘digital tools helping audio designers and SIs to design audio systems, installations, speakers and components’.

AES member and acoustic consultant Ben Kok began the session with a presentation exploring the different aspects that need to be taken into consideration when creating an acoustic design of a venue. In particular, he explored topics including: What affects sound intelligibility and what measures can be taken to optimise it; how to avoid reflections; how reverberation can be a support or an interference; and how to plan effective speaker positions using digital measurement and calculation software.

The AES’s Dr Wolfgang Anhert then conducted a presentation exploring the most recent developments in sound system modelling and acoustics, acoustic analysis methods, the tuning and monitoring of sound systems and integration with DSP control. Together with Stefan Feistal, Dr Ahnert founded Ahnert Feistel Media Group (AFMG) in 2008 and is responsible for the simulation software EASE and measurement software EASERA.

The next to speak was Powersoft’s application engineer Luigi Chelli, who presented the company's latest DSP technologies in a 40 minute talk covering signal processing, sound system alignment and FIR filters technology with respect to speaker design.

The final speaker of the day was audio consultant Kees Neervoort, currently the R&D project leader for Event Acoustics. He explained his methodology for ranking sound systems according to a number of crucial parameters. Particular considerations he highlighted included transient response measurements, phase coherency, step excellence, dynamic range, SPL and distortion.

Following the presentations, all four speakers gathered for a round table session where attendees could further explore any of the topics touched upon in the presentations.

According to AudioForum coordinator, Francesco Galará: ‘This last session in particular was very intense, crowded, and for me, the most vivid of the entire conference. I believe this demonstrates the usefulness of AudioForum in quenching the thirst of knowledge for audio and acoustics engineers.’
