Crowds greet opening of Shanghai Pro Light amp Sound

CHINA: Massed crowds gathered at the entrance of Shanghai’s New International Expo Centre on the morning of October 12th, as the 2010 editions of Music China and Shanghai Pro Light & Sound opened.
Though many of the visitors were headed for the more established and far larger Music China MI exhibition, Pro Light & Sound delivered a far more westernised vision of the Chinese pro audio industry than in previous years, with a wealth of major brands in attendance alongside rapidly growing domestic manufacturers such as Soundking and LAX.
‘This is our fourth year attending the show and so we’ve seen its progression from a pretty skinny show to getting quite substantial - there are more and more brands joining the show now,’ commented Sennheiser Asia president Marc Vincent. ‘It’s good for us because it gives us much more access to the Shanghai market, which is very different from Beijing and elsewhere.’
Other brands trumpeting the value of the show included Beyerdynamic and Klotz ais, while Bingo Tso of Chinese Harman distributor ACE – visiting the show rather than exhibiting – offered his initial thoughts early in the day: ‘This morning was busy, there were plenty of people here. I think that the show is becoming more of an international exhibition - it’s attracting more international buyers. It’s a good place to meet people and find out what’s going on.’
Approximately 400 exhibitors are reported as filling the Pro Light & Sound halls for the four day exhibition. While the majority of visitors are from the domestic market, there is also strong representation from other Asian countries, notably Thailand and the Philippines. Both Music China and Shanghai Pro Light & Sound continue until October 15th.
