d&b audiotechnik headlines Melbourne's Festival Hall

AUSTRALIA: Celebrating its centenary year, Melbourne's Festival Hall has witnessed a multitude of world famous acts grace its stage. In addition to boxing, wrestling and other sporting events, the likes of AC/DC, The Doobie Brothers, Pink Floyd and The Who have played concerts at the 2,600-capacity, acoustically challenging venue. Coinciding with the opening day of the Integrate exhibition in late August, National Audio Systems (NAS) hosted a d&b audiotechnik workshop and demonstration at the venue.

For the workshop, J- and Y-series arrays were suspended and boosted by V- and J-Infra subwoofers in addition to an evaluation of the xC-series column speaker and Max monitors. Both JPJ and Andy J Sound assisted NAS with the system set-up.

Following introductions and theories, detailed discussions on loudspeaker processing highlighting the virtues of the new D80, D20, 10D and 30D amplifiers made it a rewarding day for the 80 invited guests that enrolled for the day. 'The mix of guests has been particularly good,' commented NAS managing director Shane Bailey. 'Consultants, production companies, venue owners, systems integrators, houses of worship ? they've all enjoyed the day they've invested here. We last held a similar workshop in 2012 and it's good to catch up as these events are great for networking and drawing a good crowd of people together.'

Assisting NAS on the day was Asia Pacific technical sales manager Brian Vayler. 'Shane and his team have done a great job as anyone who has attended the Festival Hall for a concert realises that it isn't easy to get the sound right. It may only be playback we have provided, but there are a lot of very critical ears in the audience. They expect to hear good sound and with this set-up, we have provided it with some very diverse systems.'
