DAS storms Shanghai

CHINA: Chao GanGuan, which serves as DAS Audio’s exclusive Chinese distributor, recently delivered a complete PA system for two of the stages at the Budweiser Storm Festival in Shanghai. The distributor partnered with Beijing-based rental companies SStage and SAG to fulfil the sound requirements, deploying a range of DAS products, including the UX-221A subwoofer, making its Asian festival debut, and the Sound Force monitor (SF-M) seeing its first deployment in China.
Chao GanGuan technical director German Rodriguez designed the PA system for both the Makarian and M31 stages at the festival, which attracted an attendance of more than 75,000 EDM fans at Shanghai’s Disneyland Resort. The setup was based on festival organiser A2LiVE’s technical rider. Joining Mr Rodriguez to provide assistance and support was systems engineer Fernando Nanao from DAS Audio do Brasil, who brought extensive experience in using the manufacturer’s Aero systems for live applications.
For the Makarian stage, 24 Aero 50 line arrays were flown in an L-R configuration and paired with four Aero 12A compact line arrays on each side, which supplied down-fill. In front of the stage were the UX-221A subwoofers, deployed in nine stacks of two. Meanwhile, an additional 10 Aero 12A were used as front-fills, while a pair of two SF-20A and an SF-1521A served as DJ monitors in their first Chinese appearance. Managing the system were four DSP 4080 and two DSP 2060A processors.
‘I’ve never tried to hang Aero 12As under Aero 50s before,’ said Mr Rodriguez. ‘It’s an excellent combination that I fully recommend to Aero 50 users.’
The smaller M31 stage was reinforced by eight Aero 50A line arrays, functioning as the main PA in an L-R configuration. These were complemented by 12 LX-218C subwoofers, while front-fill was offered by 10 Aero 12A cabinets set up in five stacks of two. DJ monitoring was once again via two SF-20A and one SF-1521A, and processing was handled by a pair of DSP 4080s.
