DD turns to Lawo for New Delhi upgrade

INDIA: Doordarshan (DD), reportedly the largest terrestrial broadcast network in the world with more than 90 studios and relay stations spread across the Indian subcontinent and a reach covering 92 per cent of India's population, turned to German broadcast manufacturer Lawo when upgrading the TV news studio at its New Delhi broadcast centre. Enlisting systems integration company Sun Broadcast to handle the project, the broadcaster has invested in a 40-fader Lawo mc²36 mixing console. Planning for the work began in mid-2015, with the console order placed with Lawo in October 2016. The installation is currently underway with commissioning set for the end of March.

‘We won the tender with a 40-fader mc²36 with 96+96 DSP channels – the first mc² series mixing console in DD,’ confirmed Tan Boon Siong, Lawo sales director for SE Asia. ‘As well as price, we won on our ability to meet all the technical requirements laid down by Doordarshan.’

Also reportedly key to the selection of the mc²36 was Lawo’s product reputation, customer support and German build quality. ‘We have complied with all the technical requirements of the studio design technical team,’ added Mr Siong. ‘Now the installation is nearly complete. However, the approval process is expected to take one year because of parameter verification and performance testing.’
