Domo Broadcast enables coverage for 26 miles

INDIA: It is reported that more than 42,000 participants ran in the various categories of the 2017 Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. The largest marathon in Asia, the event is streamed online and covered by various broadcast outlets. Facilitating this coverage were Domo Broadcast Solo HD transmitters and a PRORXD 8-Way Diversity RF system, employed by RF rental company, Broadcast RF.
Broadcast RF managed the wireless camera coverage across the 26-mile marathon route, starting from opposite Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station. Live chase motorbikes and multiple ground bases throughout the route were equipped with the Solo HD transmitters. Ground-based terrestrial receivers were required as the use of relay aircraft was unavailable due to the city’s combination of high-rise buildings, underpasses and dense foliage.
‘With Domo’s transmitter and receivers we achieved 95 per cent coverage, which is remarkable given the numerous physical obstructions throughout the race route,’ said Paul Wolff, project manager at Broadcast RF. ‘However, the placement of the Domo receive points and the robust nature of their technology enabled us to capture far more than had previously been possible.’
Broadcast RF established a main switching hub and final decode station at the Mumbai Trident Hotel, which received signals from two other high-rise receive points throughout the course that in turn were receiving live footage from the Solo HD transmitters. The signal was then forwarded to an OB site in Azad Maidan, where it was mixed and broadcast. Domo’s PRORXD 8-Way Diversity RF system reportedly ensured that all video transmitted was free from distortions, such as fading and multipath interference.
‘We do a lot of events such as the Mumbai Marathon,’ concluded Mr Wolff. ‘This is why we choose Domo for projects that require widespread, mission-critical diversity.’
