E&E looks back to The Good Old Days

SINGAPORE: The many tourist attractions of Sentosa can easily leave visitors weary and in need of good food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Good Old Days is the latest restaurant to open its doors, where local classics such as laksa, chicken rice and satay are served daily. Located just a stone’s throw away from the Beach Sentosa Express Station, the restaurant is situated outside the Wings of Time attraction.
Previously known as Tastes of Asia, the brand new two-storey establishment caters for walk-in diners upstairs and private parties or corporate seminars below. Harking back to the good old days of 1951, Electronics & Engineering (E&E) was called upon to serve its own signature dish for the restaurant’s audio and video requirements. Amongst the air conditioning and other ducting, the open 3.5m-4.5m height sloping ceiling hosts 33 Community DP8 8-inch black pendant-mounted speakers, which perfectly blend into the industrial-styled ceiling. Suspended from customised vertical ceiling brackets, the low impedance models are further assisted in the lower frequency range by 11 FAP 8-inch subwoofers, which are distinguishable by their white finish.
Powered by six Ashly Audio KLR2000 two-channel amplifiers, speaker management with various presets is catered for by Symnet Radius 12x8 EX processor inserted with a 4-channel Analog-Out card. Two Furman CN-3600 SE sequencers on both levels allow the facility manager to power the entire system on/off, whilst the volume can be adjusted from a Symnet ARC 2e control panel. Two Tascam CD200SB CD players and a PC serve as the main music sources across all four zones. The kitchen staff can also enjoy the music as they prepare dishes courtesy of two EAW CIS400 ceiling speakers.
The audio needs of the private function area are reduced to 13 Atlas Sound FAP82T 8-inch ceiling speakers and four FAB subwoofers powered by three KLR200 amplifiers. Two channels of Shure SLX24a wireless with Beta 58 hand held mics are an added ingredient for announcements and speeches. For video presentations, an Epson EB-1935 4000-lumens projector can either be fed an HDMI (video) or VGA (laptop) input via an Atlona HDBaseT HDMI and VGA HDBaseT switcher transmitter wall plate, located below the motorised Remaco 2.03m x 1.52m tab tension screen. An Atlona HDMI receiver with a scaler has been added to the video signal chain enhancing computer images and videos by automatically scaling and adjusting them and this links back to the Radius DSP.
The music playback selection of 60s and 70s hits reflects the bygone era in keeping with the restaurants themed menu. ‘Routing the cabling to the pendant speakers on the upper level was tricky owing to sloped shape of the roof and a vent in the middle,’ offered Louis Ling, E&E account manager. Like all good recipes, E&E prepared their dish seeking out best ingredients for their clients’ individual taste. ‘E&E listened to what we wanted and fully understood our requirements,’ explained Sentosa Leisure Management assistant manager Nassier Abu. ‘Their project sales team, their electrical and mechanical installers and the after sales guys were on the same page.’
