E&E sets the ambience at Terra Singapore

SINGAPORE: Choosing a bar or restaurant to dine out in Singapore can be something of a dilemma. Both tourists and locals alike are simply spoilt for choice. So as 13 new restaurants open for business on the new 6,750 sq-m third level Sky Garden in Suntec City, the selection has become harder still. One of these is a casual rooftop bar called Terra, which is the latest addition to entertainment and lifestyle group Limited Edition Concepts’ collection. Having enlisted Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd (E&E) to design, supply and install audio systems into the Kyo and Refuge clubs, owner Godwin Pereira recalled the A/V solution provider to the latest outlet.

The main interior combines floor to ceiling glazing on the exterior side but is opened out on the interior, conspiring to ensure brightness and ventilation. The interior design is a polished façade of copper and mahogany stained wood panels, glazed tiles and electric-blue chair legs broken by scattered plants that add an organic touch. Taking centre stage adjacent to the main bar with the city serving as a backdrop behind is the DJ booth. Here a resident DJ provides the correct ambiance courtesy of a Pioneer DJM900 mixer, twin CDJ2000 Nexus players, a Mackie VLZ3 mixer, a Rane SL4 Scratch Live Serato interface and a pair of Mackie SRM550 monitors.

‘The plans changed several times owing to revised budgets and concerns regarding noise pollution,’ explained product manager Case Woo. ‘Ultimately it was straight forward and we have created a showcase for Mackie at Terra.’ The self-powered system combines five HD1221 two-way speakers with six HD1801 18-inch subwoofers to provide high definition throughout the day but enough punch in the evening hours when required. Some of the speakers have been located in a veranda al fresco dining section, which has been zoned by configuring an Ashly Protea 3.6SP 3-input/6-output loudspeaker management processor. The final zone consists of four EAW SMS5 speakers powered by an Ashly KLR2000 amplifier, installed onto the exterior wall serving as a sampler of what is going on inside for passers by. By delivering such a subtle calling card, Terra aims to speed up the decision process.
