Electrocraft debuts K2 for Salim-Sulaiman in Mumbai

INDIA: Having recently acquired a brand new L-Acoustics K2 line array, Mumbai-based Electrocraft wasted no time in putting the system to use. With more than 6,000 fans recently descending on the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel indoor stadium at Mumbai's National Sports Club of India for a concert by renowned Indian musical duo Salim-Suaiman, Electrocraft took the wraps off the system – much to the apparent delight of everyone involved.
Electrocraft is a long-time fan of L-Acoustics loudspeakers, having been using a V-Dosc system since the 1990s. The company’s founder and managing director, Roger Drego, explained the reasoning behind the new purchase. ‘The K2 line array loudspeakers have superior audio quality in a dual 12-inch cabinet,’ he offered. ‘Not to mention that the K2 boasts new technology, plus the lightweight factor and different angles of HF dispersion give the system a number of advantages. The K2 is also a rider friendly loudspeaker. It is widely acclaimed around the world and a number of artists love the natural sound of the speaker. The K2 proudly carries forward the legacy of L-Acoustics on its shoulders.’
All 24 of the newly purchased K2 line array elements were called into action for the Salim-Sulaiman concert. Main hangs of 12 K2 were flown on either side of the stage with eight SB28 subwoofers per side ground stacked underneath. Out fill was handled by four dV-Dosc elements per side, which were flown beside the main array to cover the balcony area of the indoor stadium.
Two ARCS and one SB28 subwoofer per side were provided for stage side fills. For on stage monitoring, an SB118 subwoofer provided reinforcement for the drummer. An Avid Venue Profile was used as the mixing console at FOH while an SC48 was used for monitor mixing. All speakers were powered and processed by LA8 amplified controllers and Lake digital signal processors.
Yohan Fernandes, FOH and system engineer of Electrocraft, was equally as impressed with the new setup. 'The K2 has helped achieve brilliant coverage all over the stadium,’ he enthused. ‘We were able to attain a constant SPL throughout the venue and also maintain a good balance over the entire audio spectrum.’
‘The band loved the sound of the PA, the naturalness and intelligibility was brilliant,’ added Electrocraft FOH and system engineer, Dave Drego. ‘What’s more, for a loud indoor show like this, the K2 is the perfect line array because it has immense power and is a beautiful sounding system.’
With the K2's first event a resound success, Roger Drego looks forward to the company’s future with K2. 'I have been using L-Acoustics systems for the last two decades and will continue doing so because of their superior audio quality and flexibility to cater to different shows and venues. This show went well, the event organisers were blown away by the performance of the system. One of the things I like about the K2 is that it is able to reproduce content down to 35Hz with little distortion and without over-powering the midrange. I am extremely happy with the reviews of the K2 and it’s turned out to be a perfect investment for me and my company.’
‘I’m delighted that Electrocraft has chosen to add K2 to their stock. Roger Drego has been an amazing ambassador for L-Acoustics in India for over 15 years and his choice to add our latest technology to his roster will ensure that Electrocraft will continue adding a considerable amount of market share for many years to come,’ offered L-Acoustics regional sales manager, Peter Owen.
Despite the recent purchase, however, the company always has one eye on future new developments. ‘We are keeping in mind that they are one of the top brands in the world and are known for their world class concert systems,’ concluded Roger Drego. ‘As L-Acoustics launches new products we will definitely consider them. Our aim is to always increase our inventory according to the market requirements and international standards.’
