ETC’s x7 Color brings life to Planet J

HONG KONG: Asia’s first live-action role-play theme park, Planet J, has been brought to life with ETC Connect’s x7 Color System. The theme park relies on sophisticated lighting effects provided by a system that includes the manufacturer’s Selador Desire luminaires and Source Four LED fixtures. Interactive elements have been coupled with a lighting control system comprising Unison Mosaic and Paradigm architectural controllers to provide visitors with an immersive experience.

The project was designed and installed by StandardVision so that lighting that will change as players interact with their surroundings. The solutions provider’s lighting and systems design manager, Derek Warrick, selected the system having used ETC lights and control systems multiple times over the course of 15 years, and noted that he has ‘been extremely happy with both the products and support of the staff at ETC’.

The park’s interior space is divided into eight sections, each with a different lighting requirement based on a particular theme. To tackle this, Mr Warrick and his team opted for the ETC solution. ‘The x7 Color System provides such a full colour spectrum,’ Mr Warrick said. ‘We didn’t have too many surprises when we lit the scenery. ‘They are very well designed.’

A total of 483 Source Four LED Lustr+ fixtures, 575 Desire D60 Vivids, 255 Desire D22 Lustr+ fixtures and 37 Desire D40 Vivids made up the hundreds of ETC LED luminaires deployed. ‘These fixtures have great light output and colour rendering,’ explained Mr Warrick. ‘The RDM capability also saved countless days worth of work.’

Meanwhile, DMX and DALI protocols across 92 universes and 16 loops are utilised with the mixture of Mosaic and Paradigm controllers. ‘Final programming can only be tested when the park is fully operational,’ mused Mr Warrick. ‘Interactivity is still being programmed, but I have faith that everything will work as intended. The mix of both Paradigm and Mosaic controllers provides us a flexible yet robust system.’
