ETC’s Congo Kid fills St Margaret’s in Munich with 'Eternal Light'

GERMANY: A recent event at St Margaret’s Church in Munich, Germany, has seen equipment from Electronic Theatre Controls used to transform the building’s walls into ‘beacons of eternal light’, or Lux Aetherna. Organiser Christian Bischof, the church’s organist and choir director, enlisted the help of lighting designer Ludwig Hacker to create the striking design.
‘He wanted to make a special event where the music is supported by a live light show that emphasises the impression and understanding of the music. Christian Bischof wanted the symbiosis of light, music and text to help the audience get an alternative access to spiritual music,’ explained Mr Hacker, who would ordinarily use a Nomad dongle to program shows. ‘Due to the size of the project, a bigger system was necessary, but it had to be small enough in size to fit in the space, and work with the suboptimal power supply at St. Margaret's. The ECT Congo Kid's small footprint and powerful engine makes it ideal for smaller venues that need big-venue lighting.
Mr Hacker chose to deploy the Congo Kid console with the latest Cobalt v7.1.1 software update to control the lights. This setup gave him the functionality to handle a lighting rig containing tungsten, LED and moving-head fixtures, as well as the control necessary to support his design.
Satisfied that he was able to quickly and easily program his show on the Congo Kid console, Mr Hacker reported that everyone at the church was /very happy with the results’, making the Congo Kid the right choice for him.
