TAIWAN: Fairlight Australia has completed a major installation into 3H Sound Studios in Taipei, Taiwan. The comprehensive installation involved the fitting of Xynergi Desktop systems into several of the company’s postproduction studios alongside a five bay EVO into the main mixing room.
3H Sound Studio Ltd. was founded by Duu-Chih Tu, a movie industry professional who has been in the business for more than 30 years. His goal in founding the company was to provide Chinese language films with a quality sound mixing production centre based on expert services and experienced guidance.
Commenting on the newly installed equipment, Mr Tu said that his Fairlight systems are ‘so state of the art that it would take any other Taiwanese house, including the Central Motion Picture Corp, at least five years to catch up.’
During the past few decades, Mr Tu has been awarded the Golden Horse Award, for Best Sound Effects, 10 times, which included this year's award for work on the film Soul. His studio currently offers four on-location sound recording crews and the latest sound recording technology for production needs. Additionally, the studio owns one foley room, one ADR room and seven post-production studios.
Six of these studios have been equipped with Fairlight Xynergi Desktop systems, all with fader sidecars. All of these studios are also running integrated HD video, and one of the studios is running Dual-Stream video for 3D work. Three of the studios are now fully 7.1 capable for editing and mixing. The rest offer 5.1 surround capabilities.
‘I've been using Fairlight products for almost eight years,’ said Agnes Liu, one of the main audio engineers at 3H. ‘It's fully designed for post, not like others that are more about music purposes in many ways. The editing work on Fairlight is just a lot easier because you have everything you need right in front of you. I don't think I can do sound editing with a mouse and keyboard anymore, and why should I?’
As well as Fairlight providing the postproduction studios with new equipment, the Main Mixing Room has been equipped with a large five Bay EVO console alongside Dolby Atmos and Barco's Auro-3D surround systems. According to Mr Tu, Fairlight's surround capabilities play a major role in the mixing capabilities of this studio.
‘The best part about choosing Fairlight is their service,’ Ms Liu continued. ‘They are always responsive and helpful directly. Service is always most important to us. We need someone to fix our problems in a short time and this is why we like Fairlight so much.'
