First outing for SD9 in Singapore

SINGAPORE: The DiGiCo SD9 was used for the first time in Singapore at the Opera in the Park show held at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage in the Singapore Botanic Gardens on Saturday 19 June. The desk was supplied by local rental company Audio Resources which purchased it from Singaporean DiGiCo distributor Team 108.

The event featured an hour-long line-up of operatic favourites by renowned composers such as Mozart, Bizet, Verdi and Puccini, brought to life by acclaimed young Singapore conductor, Joshua Kangming Tan together with the 48 strong Singapore Lyric Opera’s Orchestra, Opera Chorus, Youth Choir and Children’s Choir.

‘The aim of the annual Opera in the Park has always been to make Opera more accessible and encourage Opera appreciation among residents in Singapore,’ said Ms Ng Siew Eng, general manager of SLO. ‘Opera is pervasive in our lives. We have all come in contact with Opera in one form or another, whether we realise it or not. It is an art form that can be enjoyed by one and all, regardless of language and age.’

Audio Resources works predominantly for theatre and drama based productions and owner Richard Ong hadn’t even seen the SD9 before he bought it. ‘Based on my prior knowledge and experience of DiGiCo, I had faith in them and the product. I love the price of the desk, its compact size and it’s very appropriate for the range of events we cover.’
