Genting Highlands Nexo system recalibrated for David Foster
Published: ASIA

MALAYSIA: A recent performance by 16-time Grammy Award winner David Foster prompted a complete review and recalibration of the Nexo Geo T system installed within Genting Highlands, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. The work to update the system ? originally installed four years ago ? was undertaken by the French manufacturer in conjunction with its Malaysian distributor, Concept Audio.
Named The Hitman David Foster & Friends, the performance came as part of a tour of Asia and featured a number of internationally renowned vocalists performing with the producer and songwriter. Among them were Natalie Cole, Peter Cetera, Boyz II Men and Ruben Studdard. The system upgrade was conducted by Nexo system specialist Mark Bollenberg with Concept Audio, adding NXstream processing software plus a reconfigured subwoofer set-up intended to produce gains in power and control.
'Over the years, the system has given satisfaction to the venue,' commented Mr Bollenberg, 'however, the Nexo team felt that we could bring on the quality of sound even further, especially at the RS18 subwoofer distribution level. Our new approach, using a mix of left and right plus steering, works much better to avoid lateral spills and to create a pattern that really follows the room shape. We gained at least 4dB of acoustic power on top of control.
'On the Geo T side, we finally decided to run the system down to 60Hz, which was made possible by the new NXstream FIR-processed preset, which actually makes the Geo T sound more natural and open,' he continued. 'Overall the system sounds more powerful and smoother with solid and equal sub bass response everywhere.'
