Guangzhou live venue takes DiGiCo SD9

CHINA: Following the use of DiGiCo SD8 and SD9 consoles for the opening ceremony of Guangzhou’s Canton Tower, the Intown Live House – a music venue also based in Guangzhou – has taken delivery of an SD9 for its FOH sound.

The digital console was supplied by DiGiCo’s Chinese distributor Rightway Audio, following the Canton Tower opening ceremony, at which Intown Live House owner Pan Zhibing first saw the SD9 in use. ‘It’s a special venue and we paid great attention to the design of the audio system,’ explained Rightway Audio’s Stanley He. ‘Mr Pan used to work in the audio industry and so knew what he wanted from the system. The console had to be powerful and flexible, but also very compact. He immediately knew that the SD9 was the right choice.’

Mr Pan reportedly uses the console to mix FOH sound himself. ‘Mr Pan is really pleased with the SD9,’ reported Mr Stanley. ‘The sonic quality is awesome, it’s a very powerful and stable console and a perfect match for the venue.’

Elsewhere in China, Rightway Audio has also supplied a large-format SD7 console – the DiGiCo flagship model – to Beijing-based Lab Rental. The desk will form part of the rental company’s regular inventory.

‘Lab Rental is one of the biggest touring rental companies in China, so they want to bring the most advanced tools to the Chinese touring market,’ said Mr Stanley. ‘They have been looking at the SD7 since it was introduced, and working with us to make sure it suited their requirements. Having spent time with it, and seeing how powerful it is, they felt that it could handle the most complicated productions they work on and would bring significant benefits.’

The SD7 already has a number of jobs lined up, including a tour by famed Chinese singer Sun Nan, where it will be used in tandem with two SD8 consoles.
