Hayaco interpretation used for Seoul G20

KOREA: Hayaco wireless simultaneous interpretation systems were recently used for the 2010 G20 summit, which took place in Seoul, South Korea.
The 2010 G20 Seoul Summit was attended by 33 heads of state together with over 4,600 government officials and international press members. Thorough security preparations were put in place for the global financial economy discussions held at the Coex Convention Centre, including a face recognition system for all approved visitors together with radio ID tags. While the International Media Centre was located in Hall A, the International Broadcasting Centre was set up in Hall B and the Main Conference Chamber and national briefing rooms were erected on level three. Level four was home to the interpreter booths and sound control rooms.
The 10,000 sq-m Media Centre accommodated 1,200 press members, who were all supplied with Hayaco HDR-240G digital interpretation receivers. The main challenge was to transmit data to all 1,200 receivers at once, which was helped by installing transmitter and amplification antenna. Three MRX-24G two-way transmitter-receivers were erected in the Media Center to ensure flawless transmission. The summits were translated into 16 languages and automatically transmitted to the HDT-240G digital interpreter-transmitter, via optical cable and a converter. Owing to the long distance between the auditorium on the third floor and the Media Centre on the ground floor, the translated languages were transmitted via optical cable to enhance the sound quality.
The HDT-240G wireless interpretation system uses 2.4GHz digital broadcasting technology, for which each language is transmitted to each receiver to the assigned channel via radio signal. Digital broadcasting offers enhanced sound quality and higher sensitivity in comparison to analogue transmitters. Translated languages can be carried out using the HDT-240G and those are accessed and selected using MRX-24G or HDR-240 with built-in channel selection facilities.
Manufacturer Hanyang Electronics produces the HSM conferencing system primarily for the Korean market, but having endorsed the system at the G20 Seoul Summit, the organiser has now introduced this Korean technology to a global audience. The HDR-240G Interpretation Receiver received positive reviews from the press on account of its reliability and comfort, ensuring that reporting on the summit was made easier.
