In the Mix takes Indias first API 1608 console

INDIA: The first analogue API 1608 console to be sold into India has been installed into a studio named In The Mix, which has been opened by Indian playback singer Hariharan and engineer / producer KJ Singh.

In the Mix  – converted from a roomy residential apartment – will primarily be used to record music for India's feature film industry, though individual artists and bands are also expected to use the facility. The studio comprises three rooms – a live room with a vocal booth, a control room and a dedicated machine room. The API 1608 was reportedly chosen after a long selection process. ‘It just had that sound,’ explained Mr Singh. ‘We used an API Legacy console at Phase One Studios in Toronto to mix Hariharan's last album, Jab Kabhi Bolna, so we got to appreciate the full API experience then.’

Dan Zimbelman, API director of sales, added that the manufacturer is ‘excited to place India's first API 1608 console with Hariharan in his new Mumbai facility. The recording community in India has expressed its need for excellent analogue audio gear, and API is committed to supporting that community for the long term.’ To celebrate the sale the manufacturer also recently held a reception at the studio.
