JBL chosen for Melbournes Platform 28

AUSTRALIA: Offering modern Australian cuisine in the heart of Melbourne’s Docklands, Platform 28 is a former railway goods shed, which has been converted into an upmarket restaurant. Set on two levels, with two outdoor arenas and two indoor spaces, the modernity and size of the venue provides nearby offices and residents with ample space for casual dining.
Pulse Audio Visual was contracted to design, supply and install the A/V requirements, opting for JBL surface-mount speakers. Divided into five audio zones, the venue comprises a ground floor lounge, ground floor alfresco area, glazed pod, upstairs lounge and upstairs outdoor area. Each zone has been provided with its own audio source and volume level, regardless of the settings of the other zones.
‘The location and method of installation for the speakers changed quite a few times on this job,’ commented Pulse Audio Visual’s Adam Dullens. ‘Luckily there is a large variety of JBL speaker products, so we were always able to find something that would fit the job whenever site changes forced us to re-think the audio setup.’
JBL AC-Compact 8-inch speakers have been installed into the upstairs lounge, whilst weatherproof JBL Control 29AV speakers have been deployed in the adjacent outdoor area. Downstairs, JBL Control 28 and Control 29AV speakers were preferred, with JBL Control 25 speakers installed in the glazed pod and alfresco area, while JBL in-ceiling speakers provide BGM in the toilets and hallways. The entire JBL speaker system is powered by Crown XLS series amplifiers. BSS London BLU signal processors can be configured via BSS Blu8 multi-zone wall panel controllers, providing simple, individual audio source selection and volume adjustments in all five zones.
‘Although we are using a few different models of speakers, they all have a similar sound, resulting in a consistent audio quality and level as you move from zone to zone in the venue,’ furthered Mr Dullens.
