John Gerrard projects his vision with Christie

CHINA: Christie China has supplied five projectors for John Gerrard’s digital art pieces at the Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art. The exhibition, a collection of three major works, was titled John Gerrard: Power. Play, and was Mr Gerrard’s first exhibition in the region.

All of the art works were displayed on large canvasses within the museum. Three DWU555-GS 1DLP projectors were used for the work titled Exercise, a reconstruction based on satellite imagery of a system of roadways located in the Gobi Desert. Additionally, a HD14K-J projector was used for the piece titled Solar Reserve, a visual portrait of a solar farm. A WU14K-M 3DLP was also implemented for the third installation titled Farm, a digitally-modelled composite of one of Google’s servers in Oklahoma.

‘I had previously used Christie projectors for Pulp Press, a permanent installation in Norway that I completed in 2013,’ Mr Gerrard explained. ‘It was the best image and performance of any projector I have worked with. The colours, image quality and smoothness of the visuals are unprecedented. They are the best projectors for art.’

Charlize Lin, senior development manager at UCCA, also commented. ‘We are honoured to host Mr Gerrard’s exhibition. We are also delighted to have Christie come on board as our video equipment sponsor of this exhibition.’

Jason Pei, deputy manager at Christie China, also expressed enthusiasm about the recent works. ‘At Christie, our mission is to create and share the best experiences with our visual solutions. We are thrilled that our projectors have delivered bright and colourful visuals that met the artist’s expectations. We look forward to collaborating with more artists and event venue operators to bring more art forms to life.’
