JQ and dBTech return to LifeDance Festival

PHILIPPINES: dBTechnologies was again selected as the audio system of choice to power the 20,000 capacity LifeDance Sinulog Festival in Cebu. Now in its fifth year, the 2016 festival drew a mix of international and local DJs. For the third year running, the audio system and technical services were supplied by local rental house JQ Professional Lights&Sound. When LifeDance first arrived on the festival circuit it was billed as the country’s first outdoor EDM festival, and drawing inspiration from renowned global concerts such as Tomorrowland, Zoukout, Sensation, Creamfields and Coachella, it has increased in popularity year-on-year.
Having handled the technical side of the festival for the last three years, JQ Professional this time around was given the floor area and allowed to design a system of its choosing. The main PA deployed comprised hangs of eight dBTechnologies DVA T12 and six DVA T8 cabinets per-side, with 10 S30 subwoofers stacked two cabinets-high lining the front of the stage. A further eight T8s provided front-fills, alongside eight RCF HDL 20s (four per-side) for side-fills. Four dBTechnologies Opera 515 enclosures were deployed on stage for DJ monitoring and the entire system was configured and optimised using dBTechnologies’ DVA composer.
With the low-end output arguably forming the most important element for an EDM concert, JQ decided to bolster the S30s with 40 additional SubZero single 18-inch subs – a locally and custom-made cabinet. According to Steve Chadi from JQ Professional, pairing the two systems together created a challenge, but the use of dBTech’s AC26N processor allowed the custom-made subs to be adequately tuned. Away from the speakers, FOH control was from a Midas Pro1 console, while the DJs were treated to an all-Pioneer setup.
Having grown sizably year-on-year, JQ Professional has already been given the brief to expand the system for LifeDance2017, which will take place at a new location.
