INDIA: A traditional shadow puppet theatre located in the Dharwad region of India is relying on boundary microphones from JTS to capture the sound of its performances. The project was undertaken by Karnataka-based supplier Rays n Waves.
Simply named The Puppet House, the ‘centre for theatre and puppetry’ specialises in performances starring leather shadow puppets – a popular art form within Dharwad and its surrounding areas such as Kolar and Belgaum. Rays n Waves was charged with finding a high quality audio capture system that was both on budget and as discreet as possible. so as not to mar the authenticity of performances. The solution comprises multiple units of JTS CM601 unidirectional condenser boundary microphones.
‘It is an honour to have been of service to a noble initiative like the Puppet House in helping them find the perfect microphone solution for their performances,’ enthused Mr Jaga of Rays n Waves. ‘They needed a boundary mic solution that was not just easy to use and affordable, but that had great pick-up and clarity with no interference, and which would translate into great sound reproduction. Of all the options in the market, the JTS CM-601 was the clear winner by miles. They absolutely love the fact that their audiences are now able to experience the performance the way it was meant to be – real and intense!’
