K-Array blends music with art at Canvas Nightclub

SINGAPORE: Functioning as an art gallery during the day before being transformed into a bustling music venue at night, Canvas Nightclub & Creative Space has been outfitted with a new multipurpose audio system from K-Array. Installed by Sennheiser Asia, the client was seeking a system that wouldn't detract from the artwork but still effectively reinforce the house, funk and techno music it pumps out after dark.

‘The launch of Canvas Singapore is really to showcase the flexibility that will be made available for artists to exhibit in,’ explained Canvas co-owner Mahen Nathan. ‘From installations and murals to short films and photography, we can demonstrate how much of a blank canvas the venue can be.’

The decision was taken to fly the mid-hi speakers with four KH4 line array elements positioned in the corners of the dance floor, each with a KS4 subwoofer flown behind. An additional two K070 subwoofers have been installed to extend the low frequency output during live performances. A KF12 coaxial loudspeaker provides fills for the VIP area of the room and a further KF12 is used as a DJ monitor. The K-Array equipment continues outside with four KK100 slim loudspeakers and a pair of KL18ma subwoofers providing coverage for the terrace.

‘As well as being impressed with the sound of the K-Array system, I also felt it was aesthetically pleasing in the venue,’ stated Roy Ng, co-owner of Canvas Nightclub.
