Kolkata Science City projects evolution in 360-degrees

INDIA: An installation of eight HDX-W20 Flex projectors provides a 360-degree panoramic display depicting human evolution inside the newly opened Science Exploration Hall at Kolkata Science City. The Barco solution was selected by local integrator, Vizexperts, due to the manufacturer’s experience with similar projects.

The panoramic image is beamed onto a 10m high cylindrical screen, 39m in diameter, by the eight projectors, with a continuous, seamless image created by what the manufacturer describes as its ‘advanced blending technology’. The Barco projectors were reportedly mounted on a specifically designed canopy, accompanying a surround-sound system.

‘Given the scale of the set-up, the 360-degree panorama was a technically challenging project,’ explained Vaibhav Bansal, VizExperts’ vice president, marketing. ‘However, the colour and brightness consistency of Barco’s HDX projectors made this installation a breeze.’

‘We are proud to support this exhibition and India’s Science City,’ said Barco sales director, Mandar Gupte. ‘We are honoured that Science City chose our solutions.’

‘To stir enthusiasm, we make our message as fun and interactive as possible,’ added A D Choudhury, director of the NCSM, science city park. ‘We can achieve this by using state-of-the-art technology.’
