Korean educational facilities choose API in landmark sales

KOREA: US-based manufacturer API is celebrating the first two 1608 consoles to be installed in South Korean educational facilities, describing the simultaneous sales as ‘landmark deals’. The consoles were supplied to Kwangwoon University and Doowon Technical College by API’s Korean distributor, MI Corporation, and continue the increasing adoption of the brand by universities and colleges worldwide.

Recent months have witnessed API consoles installed into schools across three separate continents, from large-format Vision and Legacy desks to the company’s compact Box console. These latest sales, however, represent the first into Korean educational institutions.

Located in Seoul and founded in 1934, Kwangwoon University (originally known as the Joseon Radio Training Center), is a private research institution with a focus on electronics engineering. Having become renowned for its engineering and IT programs, the university is using its 16-channel 1608 within its Practical Music department, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the analogue console as part of its ongoing curriculum.

Similarly, Doowon Technical College, located in Anseong, is using its own 1608 to encourage students on their path to becoming engineers. Founded in 1990 and boasting sister relationships with specialist engineering schools in China and Japan, the private college is described as a ‘school for engineers-in-training’. Chan Doo Kim, the founder and chairman of the Doowon Group, is a passionate advocate of giving students high-end equipment on which to learn. ‘It is my hope that the young engineers who will be responsible for the future carry a formidable determination and a challenging consciousness to take the highest authority in their chosen professions,’ he declared. The college has installed its 1608 in its Practical Music department’s practice studio.

According to Hak Yong Shim of MI Corporation, the API consoles were purchased in part due to the manufacturer’s growing reputation. ‘The sales were based on the opinions of the professors at the schools,’ he explained.
