Lawo mc²36 debuts in Japan at YTV

JAPAN: Equipment from German manufacturer Lawo has been installed by Osaka-based broadcaster Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation (YTV), as part of an ongoing development project including a studio renewal and the commissioning of a new OB unit. The broadcaster serves Japan’s Kansai region with news, sports and drama programming, as well as producing its own programmes and movies which are translated into 20 different languages for distribution outside of the country. The studio is used for television programme production and operates 24 hours a day and 365 days per year, meaning reliability is critical. The project was supported by Lawo’s Japanese dealer, Otaritec, and featured the first mc²36 to be sold in Japan.
Now completed and being used for sports and events coverage, the Studio Sub Room at YTV’s Osaka headquarters was outfitted with a 16-fader mc²56 MkII console and 48-fader mc²66 MkII, under the guidance of Crescent Co Central. Each console has been fitted with four DSP processors and each uses Netlink integration with a Lawo Nova-73 compact router to manage I/O and assignments. Away from the studio, the broadcaster’s new OB van is being built around a 16-fader mc²36 mixing console. ‘We like its stability, operability and its sound quality,’ confirmed a YTV representative.
‘On my visit to the Osaka facilities, I was impressed by how well the mc²56 and mc²36 are integrated in YTV's broadcast infrastructure and workflows,’ commented Gregor Erlitz, Lawo’s director of sales for North East Asia. ‘We are glad that YTV staff have chosen to work with our products, and I believe this project is an important step in establishing the new mc²36 with our Japanese broadcast customers.’
