Leading Malaysian restaurant operator chooses DAS

MALAYSIA: ChasWood Resources, one of Malaysia’s leading restaurant operators, has installed DAS Audio loudspeaker systems into four new locations, with sound engineer Felix Paul explaining ‘our customers have been very complimentary and that’s always good for business’.
Alongside being the Malaysian and Singaporean franchise holder for the TGI Fridays chain of restaurants, ChasWood Resources also owns restaurants and bars including Italiannies, The Apartment, Teh Tarik Place, and Republic. Also operated by the company is Laundry, an award-winning bar based at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, which is among the four recipients of the DAS installations.
‘Laundry is a popular gathering spot with an emphasis on music—both live and background or DJs,’ explained Mr Paul, whose responsibilities for ChasWood include the consultation, design, and installation of all the company’s sound systems as well as maintenance and mixing for live and special events. He continued that for Laundry’s installation he deployed ‘two DAS Audio RF-15.64 passive/active 2-way loudspeakers atop two Compact 218 subwoofers per side for the mains, and for stage monitoring there are four MI-112N enclosures’. The system is powered by DAS H-3000 and H-4000 amplifiers with a DSP-26 processor for loudspeaker management.
Elsewhere, Italiannies – serving pizza and Italian specialities – has similarly been installed with a system for live and BGM sources. The system includes two DAS Artec 28 2-way passive boxes at the bar along with eight Artec 26 speakers, while on-stage sound is handled by two MI-112N loudspeakers. Power is via six PS-800 amps.
Sporting an Irish theme in Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, is Malones. ‘We have four DAS Artec 8 loudspeakers covering the outdoor area while indoors we installed Avant 12A loudspeakers,’ explained Mr Paul. ‘Two DAS MI-112N loudspeakers handle stage monitoring and we have a combination of two PS-800 and one PS-400 power amp driving the Artec loudspeakers.’
Finally, a new TGI Fridays based at Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur now boasts a system comprising four Artec 25 enclosures installed around the top of the restaurant’s bar plus four Arco 4 loudspeakers in the surrounding outdoor area. Low end is delivered by six Arco 12 subs while an additional eight CL-6TB ceiling speakers cover the indoor dining area. Four PS-800 and two PS-400 amps drive the install, which is intended for BGM purposes and DJ performances.
‘I love the full-range sound of the DAS loudspeakers,’ explained Mr Paul. ‘We get excellent coverage throughout and their ability to reproduce music sounds very natural. I’ve also been very pleased with DAS’ customer and technical support.’
