LTAPL steers Beatty Secondary School to success

SINGAPORE: Beatty Secondary School, located in Toa Payoh, has chosen a digital beam steering column solution from Active Audio for its hall, having facing acoustic problems for several years. The educational facility had previously attempted to mitigate an issue of high reverberation through a number of means, including the deployment of a linear column array, without success. After two on-site demonstrations, Loud Technologies Asia Pte Ltd (LTAPL), the school opted for the French manufacturer’s StepArray solution.
‘Active Audio’s StepArray speakers allowed us to accurately steer the acoustic energy within only the coverage areas of the hall and avoid spill onto hard surface behind the hall,’ explained LTAPL’s Colin Quek. ‘As the School's Speech Day was literally the next week, we made special arrangements to install the system within a day. It was no small feat.’
A pair of StepArray 180P cabinets flank the stage along with two existing Fohhn active 18” subwoofers from the previously installed system. Power and processing come from an Active Audio MP6150 amp and NUT DSP processor.
‘A lot of schools have reverberant multi-purpose halls, Beatty just happened to have it much worse,’ Mr Quek added. ‘The solution the school originally employed was a step in the right direction and it was a reputable brand too, but the acoustic environment really demanded a solution that provided far more beam control than any traditional linear column could ever offer.
