Macau’s Dragon Boat Races goes wireless with Mipro

MACAU: The recent 2015 Macau International Dragon Boat Races featured wireless communications equipment from Taiwanese-manufacturer, Mipro. The aquatic event utilises two sound control centres, the master control booth near the auditorium and another set up on a floating platform. Despite a direct distance between the two sites of just 200m, if a wired communication system used, the technical team would have reportedly had to lay over 1,100m of cable, much of it underwater, to navigate the surrounding terrain and barriers.
‘This is undoubtedly the best venue to apply wireless transmission,' observed Mipro applications assistant, Daniel Ku. ‘The goal of wireless transmission is to solve the inconvenience of wired transmission and to save time and labour.’
Following a consultation with Mr Ku, the event’s sound designer, Hu Yi-Fu of Artigo Electricos Chi Fu, opted to replace the cabled system used in previous years with Mipro antenna systems. Each booth was outfitted with one ACT-717B true diversity receiver, one MT-92A wireless interlinking transmitter, one AD-90A high power amplifier and three AT-90W transmitting and receiving log antennas – one for transmitting and two for receiving. This resulted in a two-way wireless transmitting and receiving operation system. It transmitted RF signal from the floating platform in the middle of the lake to the master control booth and back again.
‘The application was very successful,’ commented Mr Hu following the event. ‘The transmission was perfect without any signal drop-out. Mipro’s antenna systems are more reliable than I imagined. Thanks to Mipro for providing such an ideal wireless solution. It saved a lot of time and labour in terms of setting up signal cables and removing them afterwards.’
