Mediagroup Academy to host surround sound seminars

MALAYSIA: The second week of September will see two seminars based on surround sound technology take place at Mediagroup Academy Malaysia. The first one day event, held on September 7th, will offer an introduction to Dolby technologies, while the second will take place from September 8th to 10th and will encompass broader 5.1 surround sound topics. Both will be hosted by 35-year broadcasting veteran Jean-Paul Moerman.

Based in Puchong, Mediagroup Academy officially opened in March 2015 as a permanent base for industry education with high-end equipment and expert tuition. 'The academy has existed in Malaysia since 2008 but offering ad-hoc, touring training without dedicated facilities,' explained Stagetec Asia sales director Advon Tan. 'We decided to open a facility to have a permanent base. The facility has become a legitimate training centre conducting all kinds training for affordable fees.'

Named Immersive Sound, the September 7th, one day seminar will explore a typical multi-channel or surround sound production chain while discussing Dolby 5.1 formats and how best to work with them. From September 8th to 10th, the Academy will host Revive the Concert ? three 'intensive' training days during which Mr Moerman will present an in-depth examination of 5.1 including microphone techniques and positioning, the integration of surround workflows into individual workflows and specific case studies.
