Meyer Sound tackles crime in Brisbane

AUSTRALIA: Brisbane City Council has installed audio-based CCTV cameras to increase security at the Fortitude Valley Entertainment Precinct. The cameras have been paired with Meyer Sound’s MM-4XP self-powered loudspeakers. Systems integrator United Technology Solutions was enlisted to install the units throughout the mall.
‘These audio-based cameras will allow us to intervene in real time, tell people if they are committing a criminal act, or something that is not convenient to other people, that we are watching them. And, if need be, that police are on their way,’ said Lord Major Graham Quirk, who explained that the ‘talking’ cameras had already been trialled in Brisbane’s CBD.
Capable of delivering 113dB maximum SPL over a 120Hz to 18kHz range, the speakers receive power and audio signals from a sealed SwitchCraft EN3TM connector that allows them to be deployed outside. For large installations, the units are powered by the MPS-488HP IntelligentDC power supply, a 19-inch rack unit that distributes power and audio to up to eight MM-4XPs.
