Mica adds a new dimension to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom

CHINA: A Meyer Sound line array system has been installed to power the 5D Castle Theatre at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, China. The audio system in the 1,000-seat theatre has been built around what is reportedly one of the world’s largest AVB networks, and encompasses nearly 120 of the manufacturer’s cabinets. The multichannel presentation at the 5D Theatre includes 26 input channels and various output channel configurations connected to a D-Mitri digital audio platform via AVB. The systems and technology behind the show were designed by Austria-based Kraftwerk Living Technologies.

‘D-Mitri with AVB was my favoured solution for this application,’ stated Leo Wagner, infrastructure manager for Wels, Kraftwerk Living Technologies. ‘The fact that the AVB data shares the same network infrastructure as the control data is proof that the AVB and other common network tasks can coexist, even on heavily utilised networks.’

In addition to streamlining installation, the AVB network transports eight channels of audio to each seat in the theatre for localised effects and language translations.

‘Because of the extraordinary size of this theatre, there were no cinema loudspeaker systems available on the market that could meet our stringent performance requirements of coverage up to 44m,’ furthered Christian Hofer, managing partner and technical director at Kraftwerk Living Technologies. ‘Fortunately, Mica line arrays increased the acoustic energy to ensure the entire auditorium was filled with powerful, high-quality sound.’

Audio coverage throughout the theatre is from seven screen channel arrays of eight Mica enclosures and two 600-HP subwoofers each, 22 HMS-12 surround speakers and 12 UPQ-1P cabinets for surround sound and localised special effects. Away from the audio, the theatre offers guests the world’s largest permanent projection screen (88m x 18m) and largest stereoscopic 3D projection. Kraftwerk Living Technologies’ proprietary 4D seats fill the theatre, bringing motion, scents, air blasts, water effects and tickler sensations to every visitor.

Elsewhere at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, the manufacturer’s equipment has been installed at the park’s International Circus City. Supplied and installed by Shanghai Broad Future Electro Technology Co, Ltd, with design by the company’s technical director, Leon Yang, the 2,700-seat theatre offers circus performances and has been equipped with a Mica system to support the live music accompaniment. A total of 14 Mica cabinets, four 1100-LFC subwoofers, 12 UPA-1P enclosures and eight JM-10 arrayable and UPJunior Vario speakers have been installed. Artist foldback includes four UPJ-1P Vario loudspeakers and six UM-100P and two USM-1P stage monitors. Two Galileo 616 processors provide system drive and alignment.
