Midas masters the Sukma Games

MALAYSIA: Premier Echo Sound & Lighting, a major contractor for national government events, selected the Midas Pro 9 console for FOH at the opening of the 2016 Sukma Games. The event was broadcast on Malaysia’s TV1 and was hosted at Kuching’s Sarawak Stadium.

The Pro 9 console was connected to a DL371 via a 300m fibre optic cable, with the line arrays deployed around the stadium. Additionally, for the Malaysian Armed Forces marching band inputs from a DL451 were implemented, configured with 16 analogue inputs and eight analogue outputs.

At monitor world, a second Pro 9 took inputs from a 13-piece band, 12 wedge mixes, six stereo IEM mixes and four mono IEM mixes for the singers as well as a violinist. Using a DL371 linked to the FOH DL471 via Cat-5e, inter-console soft patching of bidirectional signal routing was enabled for three-way talkback between stage, monitor and FOH.

‘Premier Echo and I are long time Midas console users,’ explained monitor engineer, Desmond Lee. ‘With as little as a Cat-5e cable and a DL451 we can route absolutely anything to anywhere we want. Additionally, the workflow on the Midas surface is straight forward and it produces a unique sound.’
